Donald H. Marier

April 14, 1940 — February 28, 2024

Donald H. Marier, known affectionately as Don, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 83. Born on April 14, 1940, in Centerville, Minnesota, Don was a man whose friendly demeanor, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

Don's life was one of service and adventure. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he had the opportunity to serve his country abroad in Turkey and was stationed at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas. His time in the Air Force was a defining period of his life, instilling in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried with him long after his honorable discharge. Following his military service, Don embarked on a career as an over-the-road truck driver, a job that suited his love for travel and meeting new people. Over the years, he logged more than 4 million miles, crisscrossing the vast highways of the United States and witnessing its beauty from behind the wheel. His work not only provided for his family but also fueled his stories and expanded his horizons.

Don's passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting and fishing. He cherished the quiet moments in nature and the excitement of a new catch or a successful hunt. Additionally, he found joy and freedom on the open road riding his motorcycle, often accompanied by friends and family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. In his later years, Don could frequently be found in his favorite recliner, indulging in his love for black and white westerns. These simple pleasures brought him comfort and allowed him to reflect on a life well-lived.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Donna (Michael) Hoeschele of Topeka, Kansas, and William (Tana) Marier of Kansas City Mo. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Jason (Britany) Marier of Parrish, Florida, Joshua Carpenter of Topeka, Kansas, and Olivia and Grace Marier of Kansas City, Missouri. Don also leaves behind his siblings, Richard Marier, Louise Schallenberger, and Marie Sogge, He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Karol Holmquest and Shirley Marier, and now joins them in eternal rest.

Don's life was a testament to the values he held dear—family, friendship, and the simple joys of life. He was a man who made a lasting impression on everyone he met, and his stories, laughter, and kind heart will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we say goodbye to Donald H. Marier, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, marked by the love he gave and the happiness he found in every day. Don's memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to embrace life with the same generosity and warmth he so effortlessly displayed.
