Donald Wayne Lawton, 59, of Harveyville, Kan., died July 23, 2019, at his home after battling cancer for more than a year.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, at the Harveyville Cemetery. A memorial has been established at Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.

Born Aug. 16, 1959, in Jefferson City, Mo., he was the son of Earl Lawton and Elda June Siebert Lawton. His step-mother was Lillian Lawton.

After graduating in 1977 from Northern Heights High School, Allen, Kan., Don served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was discharged on November 15, 1979. He worked in fire and emergency medical services for more than 30 years and was a former captain and chief of the Wabaunsee County Fire District #3 — Harveyville. He also worked in the oil fields, as an over-the-road truck driver, a mechanic, and a heavy-equipment operator.

He was married to Pam Salzman. The couple divorced. He married Lorna (Masters) Lister on Nov. 15, 1997.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Harry Salzman; daughters Christina Wise and Hannah (Tyler Basler) Megredy; step-children Jennifer (Tom) Masters and children Brett, Ashley and Waylon; Ashley (Ryan Trego) Lister and children, Ryder, Rylan, Nikki and Breanna; Lisa (Austin) Droegemeier and children Remington and Montana; Criss Lister; and Taylor (Heaven Andrews) Masters and children Paisleigh and Kynnleigh; and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by brothers Eddie of Lebo, Kan., Wes (Tammy) of Florida, and Walter (Susan) of Missouri; and a sister Jessica of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Donald Jr., and brother William, and mother-in-law Dorothy Masters.

Don enjoyed many hobbies. Among his favorites were fishing, hunting, camping, and golf. He had many great stories of his fishing and camping adventures.
