Celebrating a Life Well Lived

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Donald Hanshaw, who departed this life on October 24, 2025. He died peacefully in his sleep at home. Don was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family and friends.

Family and Personal Life

Don is survived by his wife Sheryl Hanshaw, his children Michele Hanshaw, Shane Hanshaw, Matt Hanshaw (wife Rebekka) and Cynthia Davis (Husband Jimmy). He also raised a niece and nephew, Susan Babb and Galen Babb. He had 22 Grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He had a surviving sister, Mary Metzger.

Don was proceeded in death by his parents Edward and Patricia Hanshaw, two brothers Charles and James Hanshaw and sister Sandra Hanshaw.

Early Life and Education

Born on June 21, 1951 in Concordia, KS, grew up in Topeka, Ks surrounded by love and encouragement. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1969.

He also attended DeVry Electronic Systems in 1976 and worked in the electronic and computer field for most of his career.

In 1999 he attended Friends University where he got a Business Management Degree and a Masters degree in Management Information Systems (IT) in 2001.

Some of the jobs he held in his later years were teaching electronics at Wichita Technical Institute, selling cars, delivering auto parts, and most recently building agricultural sprayers which he enjoyed. He worked until the day he died.

He was a handyman and did most of the repairs on his cars and homes. He had a pilot license and his own plane for a while.

Legacy

Don was a Christian and shared the Gospel everywhere he worked. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched. His memory will be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire kindness, compassion, and generosity in others. His warmth, laughter, and wisdom will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Funeral Arrangements

A celebration of Don's life will be held from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, November 9th, 2025, at the Hoyt Community Center in Hoyt KS. Family and friends are invited to join and share in remembrance.
