Doane Michael Baldwin

December 8, 1969 — August 12, 2023

Doane Michael Baldwin, a beloved father, veteran, and avid outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, at the Midland Care Hospice House, with loved ones at his side. His courageous battle with cancer came to an end, but his spirit and fun-loving personality remain vivid in the hearts of all who knew him.

Doane was born on December 8, 1969, in Topeka, Kansas to Richard Earl Baldwin and Roxanne Sue (Simpson) Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Errick Matthew Baldwin. He leaves behind his cherished daughter, Camryn Dale Baldwin, his former wife and lifelong companion, Michelle Baldwin, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. The bond he shared with his friends, particularly Michael "Rob" Williams, Brad Moeller, Ryan Runnebaum, and Bob Sommars, was enviable and testified to Doane's ability to create lasting, meaningful connections; they didn't consider themselves mere friends, but brothers.

Doane graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1987. He served valiantly in the United States Army before moving onto a career as a professional truck driver. His love for the open road was rivaled only by his love for farming, an endeavor he pursued with great passion and dedication. Doane earned a reputation as a hard worker who was not afraid to take on any task, no matter the challenge.

Doane was a man of simple pleasures, who loved the great outdoors. Whether it was firing up the chainsaw, attending a NASCAR race, building a massive bonfire, or driving gravel roads with his daughter, Camryn, he was always most content under the open sky. He also had a soft spot for animals, particularly his loyal border collie, Taylor, who was his constant companion.

Doane lived for the moment, and never let an opportunity for adventure pass him by. His quick wit and considerate nature drew people to him. Doane never hesitated to help a friend in need, a testament to his generosity. Even while battling aggressive, advanced cancer, Doane expressed concern for his loved ones rather than himself, a testament to his selflessness.

In this difficult time, we take comfort in the wonderful memories Doane has left behind. His life leaves a blueprint of resilience, warmth, and unwavering passion. His was a life beautifully lived, and his memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Doane Michael Baldwin, a man of strength, humor, and kindness, will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

Family and friends will gather at Lynn Creek Cemetery in Berryton, Kansas for a graveside service, complete with military honors on Saturday, August 26th at 3 pm. A potluck dinner will follow the ceremony at a separate location, further information will be provided following the service.
