Dixie M. (Wendland) Mann

September 9, 1938 — May 14, 2025

Dixie M. (Wendland) Mann, 86, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday May 14, 2025, surrounded by all her loved ones.

Born September 9, 1938, in Vassar, KS, Dixie was the daughter of Richard and Hazel (Evinger) Wendland.

She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956 and soon after married Charles E (Chuck) Mann, on February 16, 1957, in Topeka.

Dixie worked for many years at A&P Grocers. In 1984, she and Chuck relocated to Fort Myers, Florida, where they both worked alongside Chuck's brother, James, at Guymann Construction. In 2006 Dixie told Chuck-- and he agreed-- that it was time to move back home to Topeka to be closer to family.

Dixie had a passion for trips to the casino, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, and shopping. She loved to cook for family gatherings. Her family's favorite was her Fried Rice. Dixie and Chuck together enjoyed many trips up North to the cabin in Michigan, stopping at as many casinos as they could find on the way. More than anything, Dixie loved being "Grandma." Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She leaves behind her daughter Sherry Welborn, sons James (Lori) Mann, and Bobby (Melinda) Mann. Four granddaughters-- Jamie (Richard) Taylor, Hailey Mann, Andrea (Alex) Thornburgh, Megan (Brandon Morris) Mann; One grandson, Justin Bauer. Five great grandchildren-- Rowan and Avery Taylor, Ellerie Mann, Wren Morris and the newest joy in the family, Bennett Thornburgh, born just days after her passing, on May 22, 2025. Dixie is also survived by her sisters, Lousie Moyer and Ann Uhl, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, her parents Richard and Hazel Wendland, sisters Pauline Braden and Sondie Musick, brother Richard Wendland, and her son-in-law Jim Welborn.
