Diane Gail Brewster

November 20, 1954 — April 16, 2022

Diane Gail Brewster was 67 when she passed through this life on April 16, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, Ks. She was born November 20, 1954, in Tulsa, Ok one of two daughters of Weldon and Ruth (Rardin) Hickey. Diane is survived by her sister, Sara Hickey Danker (Les) of Singapore. Diane had a series of strokes which robbed her of her cognitive abilities. Later cardiac infarctions weakened her heart. She smiled and drew her last breath after hearing her sister Sara's voice on the phone. Diane earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washburn. She had a special affinity for language. She could pronounce every word in Webster correctly and most times in Spanish! If one needed to be corrected in their delivery of a word she could and would very sweetly. Diane's love for words drew her into so many different genres of reading. She was interesting to talk to, but more so to listen to. Language had Diane's head, but people had her heart. She worked at various care facilities with people who needed her most. Diane was a kind, gentle woman who shared her goodness unconditionally with family and friends. Regardless of who, how many or what the affiliation if you were lucky enough to be part of DiDi's coterie...fun just took on a new color of extreme. As a Master Degree Social Worker, which she earned at KU, she was able to be a voice and a stern advocate for those who needed her most. She talked a lot about the experience of those successes and of the dismal shortcomings of meeting their needs. While working at the Woman's Recovery Center, Diane was able to level the truth, even when it hurt her to dispense it, with an open heart and a plan to guide clients to a better place. Diane met her counterpart of words, Erwin Seba. They were married here in Topeka. They then traveled to Houston. Diane worked tirelessly to represent those in need under her care as a social worker. It was here she met the man who made her whole, who captured her heart and who she would later marry. She married Louis Brewster in 2007. They enjoyed arts, music and festivals throughout Houston and the coastal area. She often talked about the delicious food she and Louis shared and prepared at home. Louis preceded her in death. Diane moved back to her family of friends here in Topeka. She was reunited with old friends some of whom she shared kindred spirits, some she taught how to be open and to be present and she was always ready to meet new friends. To all of us she loved, she told us and showed us, while doing it unconditionally and without hesitation. Sister and friend, you will forever be missed and you will forever be loved.
