Delores "Dee" Gale Layman

January 31, 1952 — April 13, 2026

Burlingame

Delores Gale Layman, “Dee,” 74, of Burlingame, Kansas, passed away on April 13, 2026.

She was born on January 31, 1952, and was raised on a farm outside of Auburn, KS. Dee grew up with a deep love of animals—especially horses. Some hobbies included riding horses, gardening, sewing and just being outdoors. She often shared stories from her childhood growing up, tales that became treasured memories for her children.

Dee was known for her hard work, her strength, and her fierce independence. Many who knew her would describe her as a bit ornery, a quality that made her both unforgettable and deeply loved. She carried a resilient spirit throughout her life, meeting challenges head‑on and always finding a way forward. Over the years she worked in a variety of career fields, retiring from Topeka Metro Transit in 2018 after 23 years of service.

Family was at the center of everything for Dee. She loved watching her grandchildren in all their school activities and would travel hours just to sit in the stands and cheer them on. Whether it was a sporting event, performance, or school milestone, she showed up—proud and supportive.

Dee is survived by her children: Nicole (Blair), Damion (Kelly), Dawn (Daniel), and Erica (Jason); her grandchildren: Halie, Nathan, Anthony, Jadie, Mason, Jarin, Hayden, Chloe, Morgan, and Madalyn; and her great‑grandchildren: Bristol, Jerome, Colter, Lety, Micah, and Lakelyn. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine (Ron); her niece and nephews; and a very large extended family who loved her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Margaret Layman, and her niece, Michol.

The family will be holding private services. A Celebration of Life will be held in Auburn at a future date.
