David Franklin Woodcock, affectionately known as Dave, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023, in his hometown of Topeka, KS, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on June 18, 1950, and lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and passion. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Janice Woodcock, his adored daughters, Amy and Jamie Woodcock, and his cherished grandsons, Alexander Long, Trenten Long, and Cailan Hodison. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Aaliyah Long, and a beloved brother to Michael and Aaron Woodcock.
His family was his pride and joy, and he was always there to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer a comforting word. Dave was a hardworking and dedicated man. He retired from Frito Lay after many years of service, before moving on to Topeka Transit, where he continued to serve his community until his retirement. His work ethic was unmatched, and his dedication to his job and his community was an inspiration to all who knew him.
One of Dave's greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandkids. He loved taking them fishing, boating, and attending their sporting events. His love for photography captured these precious moments, freezing them in time for generations to come. Dave was also an avid motorcyclist, a passion he indulged in whenever he had the chance, enjoying the freedom and tranquility it brought him. Dave was a man of many words, but the ones that best describe him are kind, generous, and selfless. He had a heart as big as the outdoors he loved so much, always ready to help anyone in need. His generosity knew no bounds, whether it was giving his time, his resources, or simply a listening ear. His selflessness was evident in everything he did, always putting others before himself. His kindness was a beacon, drawing people to him. He was the kind of man who made friends everywhere he went, his warm personality and easy smile making him a joy to be around. He was a man who made the world a better place simply by being in it.
In remembering Dave, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, laughter, and service to others. We remember a man who was a loving husband, a devoted father, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we bid farewell to David Franklin Woodcock, we do so with heavy hearts, but also with gratitude for having known such a remarkable man. His memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to his loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Heartland Worship Center,1401 NW Harrison, Topeka, KS 66608
