David Lynn Rose, 78, of Ottawa, Kansas, formerly of Baldwin City, Kansas, passed away on August 17, 2026. He was born on July 2, 1948, to Lyle Andrew Rose and Wilma Lucile (Searle) Rose.
David was a man of character who valued hard work, dedication, and family. He devoted 34 years to Hallmark Cards, where he worked as an Inventory Control Specialist. His dependability and strong work ethic were reflected in the lasting relationships he built throughout his career.
David enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing and fishing. He was a passionate Kansas State University fan and especially enjoyed attending K-State football games and tailgating with his family.
He also gave his time generously to his community. David was a longtime organizer and volunteer with the youth baseball program in Baldwin City, where he enjoyed supporting young athletes and being part of the community.
Family was at the center of David’s life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, with a particularly special bond with his granddaughters. He also had a great love for dogs. David was known for his patience, wonderful sense of humor, and positive personality. People were naturally drawn to him, and he had a way of making those around him feel welcome and at ease.
David faced Parkinson’s disease for 16 years with dignity and grace. Through the challenges he experienced, he remained devoted to the people he loved and maintained the qualities that defined him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Andrew Rose and Wilma Lucile Rose; his uncle, Joe Searle; his brother-in-law, Duane Larson; his brother-in-law, Jerry Fritts; and his father-in-law, John Fritts.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, of the home; his son, Chris Rose and wife, Fonda, of Ottawa, Kansas, and their daughters, Layna and Landree Rose; and his son, Jason Rose and wife, Bobbie, of Sabetha, Kansas, and their daughters Finley and Arden Rose. He is also survived by his sister, Susie Larson of Manhattan, Kansas; his mother in-law Opal Fritts; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Joyce Smith; his sister-in-law, Debbie Fritts; David also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
David will be remembered for the life he built around the people and things he loved: his family, K-State football, baseball, golf, fishing, and his dogs. His family will treasure the memories they made with him and carry his love, humor, and example with them always.
A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Community Center; 2705 Florida Rd, Ottawa, KS 66067
