David L. Powell

September 15, 1968 — September 21, 2015

David L. Powell, 83, of Topeka, KS greeted the Lord on September 21, 2015 at Rolling Hills Health and Rehab Center in Topeka, KS.

David was born in Carter, SD. He married Bernice H. Powell September 15, 1968 and adopted three children without hesitation. He helped in raising children, acquaintances of his children and grandchildren. He had numerous talents such as: farming, piloting, logging, forestry, diesel mechanics, and truck driving. Although, he worked endless hours throughout the work week he assisted with house cleaning, laundry, canning, and planting of gardens and flowers.

David loved all seasons, nature, fields, trees, reading and the sharing of books to anyone that was interested. When tools were not available or affordable he made his own from scratch. He could fix anything out of nothing. He always thought of ways to improve something and would even invent his own ideas to help himself and others. In retirement years he would collect black walnut crops for nuts from numerous places and teach his grandchildren how to clean (normally in a washing machine without mom's knowledge), husk, crack, and distribute free to many individuals for baking. He loved to play jokes on everyone and had many friends. He loved to watch and feed birds (didn't appreciate black birds as he claimed they frightened off other birds and ate all the food.

When he was stressed it never came to view. He enjoyed life and accepted it as it occurred. His comment "not much you can do about it, so don't worry about it". His most common used words were "couldn't say for sure" and "huh?"

David L Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice H. Powell, son, Delano R. Powell, and his mother and father, Hazel (Merchant) Powell and David Powell, Sr.

He is survived by his son, Scott D. Powell, three daughters, Sandy K. Goslin, Sherri L. Jackson, and Charlene G. Guerrero. David had ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and the oldest sibling of three sisters and three brothers.

David was a son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. When it came close to the end of life he was ready to greet the Lord with open arms.

May the good Lord bless you and keep you, until we meet again. (Dad), David rest in peace …. You are missed very much.
