David Wayne Pitt

February 25, 1975 — December 14, 2023

David Wayne Pitt, a man who packed a lifetime of love, laughter, and kindness into his 48 years, left this stage for the grandest one of all on December 14, 2023, in Topeka, Kansas, after a final curtain call due to organ failure. Born on a sunny day in Homestead, Florida, in 1975, David brought light and warmth wherever he went.

David, known for his infectious chuckle and ability to find the funny in the mundane, lived a life that was anything but ordinary. He was the beloved ringmaster of his own circus, with a family that was both his audience and his greatest act. His mother, Linda Hawks of Lawrence, Kansas, stood as his lifelong fan. His fiancée, Melissa Ann Levenberg, and her son, Shaun-Ezekiel, were his greatest support act, while his children—Julianna Pitt from Colorado, Aiden Howey, and the dynamic duo Ava & Alivia Pitt from Milton, Florida—were his main event. David's honorary child, Ray Weiser from Wichita, Kansas, completed this troupe, with his grandchild Ivy Pitt of Lawrence, Kansas, as the newest member of the ensemble. Lastly his and Melissa's 4 animals (2 dogs Happy & Hope and 2 cats Tommy Jr & Annie Amber Ann (AAA)) who ran his world.

His siblings, Susan (with her partner-in-crime Humberto) Gonzalez of Aurora, Colorado with James, Tyler, Ashton (wife Lili and son Angel) and Michael (alongside his leading lady Jennifer) Pitt of Elyria Ohio, with their trio of daughters Isabella, Savannah, and Madelyn, shared in the comedic journey, often providing the punchlines to his jokes. His brother River Storm from Lawrence, Kansas, often played along growing up to David's antics. Aunts and uncles, including the dynamic duo of Kim Johnson (and her sidekick Park Lockwood), cousins Ethan Johnson & Jackson Lockwood and the poetic fisherman himself Steve Johnson, all from Lawrence, Kansas, as well as the double acts of Wayne (and Connie) Tillotson from Caledonia, Ohio, Buddy (and Debbie) Tillotson from Highland, Illinois, and Mike (and Diane) Siegler from Fayetteville, Arkansas, all had their cameo roles in his life. David took his final bow preceded in death by his legendary Grandmother Cora Tillotson and Uncle Larry Tillotson.

David's work history was a series of encores and standing ovations. He was devoted to being a quality employee, and his colleagues found themselves earning a lifelong friend. His association involvement was no different.

His interests were as varied. David loved summers not just for the weather, but for the endless opportunities they presented for laughter, swimming, grilling, get-togethers, and the kind of storytelling that could only happen under a starlit sky. He was the kind of guy who could find humor in everything and kindness in everyone. To David, life was a story book to later become a movie, and he made sure everyone had a front-row seat.

David's legacy is not just in the memories he leaves behind, but in the laughter that will continue to echo long after his departure. He would want us to remember that life, much like comedy, is all about timing. And though his time was cut short, the laughs, the love, and the kindness were abundant and will live on in the punchlines and devotion of those he loved.

So, here's to David Wayne Pitt, a man who never met a joke he didn't tell, a person he didn't care for or a summer day he didn't cherish. He made the world a better place and gave us all a performance that we'll never forget. Curtain down, spotlight off, but the chuckles will continue in our hearts forever.
