David "Dave" Wayne Shepherd, 70 of Hoyt, passed away on July 1, 2024, in his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born on May 22, 1954, in Aledo, Illinois.
Dave worked as a truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and a farmer. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, driving his Dodge Challenger, and putting up hay.
He married Kay Gurney, who survives, on August 13, 1977, in Topeka, KS. They celebrated over 46 years of marriage. Survivors also include his three children, Rhonda (Andy), Angie, and Floyd "Bud" (Lisa); nine grandchildren; his mother, Floy (Ken) Minden; sisters, Deborah Magedanz and Lori Park; and half-brother Jason (Cathi) Pullen. He took immense pride in his role as a Papa to Tate and Stone (Rhonda), Jeremy, Georgialee, and Jett (Angie), Kenny, Emilee, Aubree, and Brittany (Bud). Dave's legacy is carried on through the love and memories he shared with each of them. He was preceded in death by his father Floyd "Bud" Shepherd; and his in-laws Kenneth and Ruth Gurney.
Dave's remains will be scattered during a private event. A public farewell get together will be held on July 20, 2024, from 1-4 pm at the Hoyt Community Center in Hoyt, Kansas.
