David L. Couch

July 10, 1955 — February 2, 2023

David L Couch (67) died peacefully Thursday, February 2, 2023 at his home in Topeka surrounded by loved ones. David's greatest love is for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who died and rose again to pay for the sins of mankind. David was sad to leave his family but joyful to be going to the presence of the Living God.

David was born in Topeka on July 10, 1955 to Robert and Betty Couch. He spent his early years in Topeka and Dodge City. David graduated from Topeka West High School in 1973.

David received his BS in Nursing from Washburn University in 1978. After graduation he was commissioned in the United States Air Force serving as a Clinical Nurse until 1982. Following his active service in the USAF he enrolled in the University of Missouri School of Nursing where he earned his Masters in Nursing in 1986.

In 1988 David joined the Kansas Air National Guard. As a member of the 190th ARG he proudly served in Desert Shield/Storm 1990-91. His many stories about life in Saudi Arabia have entertained his friends and family over the ensuing years. David deployed many places but his favorite may have been Ukraine in 2001. He loved the people, their culture and history. Many times he repeated the story of the people standing through the church service, noting their dedication to God.

The autumn of 1998 found David moving to Kansas City, MO to attend Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Often laughing about being on the 10 year plan, David earned his Masters of Divinity in 2008. His area of specialty was New Testament Greek and First Century History. He taught many adult classes and small groups focused on combining the language and history of the New Testament with secular history and culture. He wrote Bible study materials and taught classes for many years.

David retired from the Kansas Air National Guard in 2005 with 26 years of proud and honorable service in the United States Air Force. He continued working in Emergency Services, Family Practice and Occupational Health through the rest of his career until retiring from Stormont Vail Work Care in 2016.

David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan Couch; brother and sister-in-law Martin & Lynn Couch of AZ; brother Dean Couch of ND; son and daughter-in-law Jeremy & Marissa Couch of Orlando, FL; daughter and son-in-law Jessica & Richard Manion of Hoyt, KS; step-daughter and husband Stephanie & Timothy Regalia; son Joshua Couch of Topeka, KS; one granddaughter Ainsley and five grandsons Kellan, Easton, Breyer, Chester, Jensen.

David is preceded in death by his parents.
