Darrel Wayne Frey, who was born on February 4, 1946 to William Weir Frey and Betty Louise Mitchell, passed away on November 1, 2017. He is preceded in death by parents William and Betty and his brother William. Darrel was the oldest child of three and married Barbara Anne Kruger on February 24, 1967. Together they had two boys, William Robert Frey (Gloria) and Michael Wayne Frey (Kelly). Darrel has three grandchildren Talin, Lorien, and Natalie Frey. He is also survived by sister Mary Jo Kippes (Harvey).
Darrel graduated from Silver Lake High School where he participated in football, basketball, baseball and track as well as being a member of FFA. He enlisted in the Air Force and served in Viet Nam and later served in the Army National Guard in Topeka. Darrel retired as a supervisor from the Santa Fe Railroad after 41 years. Darrel grew up on a farm and spending time in the field continued into his adult years. He also turned a hobby into a profession when he opened a paintball field.
Darrel was a devoted family man who enjoyed activities with his family and friends. An annual Fourth of July BBQ was a favorite of his. Many evenings were spent watching movies by the 3 C's (Clint Eastwood, Chuck Norris and Charles Bronson). Three grandchildren presented Darrel with a wide range of new interests that included listening to music practice, target practice, word games (including making lists of homophones). He was also lucky enough to have a granddaughter who enjoyed giving back scratches. Darrel liked to share stories with family and enjoyed hearing about a person's day, no matter how average they may have thought it was. Darrel was also known to go above and beyond to make sure a person got what they wanted.
Darrel requested no services and a private internment. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society in Darrel's name.
