Cynthia Marie "Cindy" Smith

October 4, 1955 — January 8, 2024

Cynthia Marie Smith, affectionately known as Cindy, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on January 8, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on October 4, 1955, in Corona, California, Cindy's zest for life and creative spirit touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.

Cindy's early years in Topeka laid the foundation for her lifelong love of the arts. She attended Hayden High School, where she first began to hone her artistic skills. Her educational journey continued as she pursued further studies at Kaw Valley Vo-Tech and then at Washburn University, preparing her for a fulfilling career that would blend her passions and talents.

Professionally, Cindy's artistic talent shone brightly in the world of advertising. Her career as a Graphic Artist was marked by her significant contributions to Milgram's Food Stores and Western Auto, as well as various other advertising agencies. Her keen eye for design and her ability to capture the essence of a brand in her work made her a respected figure in the industry.

Beyond her professional life, Cindy's interests were as vibrant and varied as her personality. She found joy in the delicate craft of creating stained glass pieces and the earthy feel of throwing pottery. Her artistic expression extended into the realm of music as well; Cindy was not only skilled in playing the guitar but also the banjo, filling the rooms with songs.

A regular attendee of regional bluegrass festivals, Cindy's love for music was most evident at the annual Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival, where she immersed herself in the sounds and culture that she cherished. Her presence at these festivals was a testament to her appreciation for the artistry and community that bluegrass music fosters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas F. Smith and Amelia Besler Smith, who instilled in her the values and love that she carried throughout her life.

She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish her memory: her siblings Kathleen Kalny (Jim), Tim Smith (Kris), Maureen Hillis (Ron), Dr. Michael Smith (Jane), and Stephanie Jones (Doug), and many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Each of them will hold onto the unique bond they shared with Cindy, remembering the laughter, the art, and the music that defined her.

Cindy will be interred April 20th, at 10:30at Mount Calvary Cemetary. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:30 at the Snyder Cabin facility on the west side of Gage Park, 800 Porter Road.

Her spirit, like the stained glass she so lovingly crafted, will continue to reflect the beauty of her life in the countless memories we hold dear.

May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be forever remembered.
