Craig Eugene Collins

May 3, 1952 — September 6, 2024

Craig Eugene Collins, 72, Topeka, KS, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS, following a long illness.

He was born in Concordia, KS on May 3, 1952 to Robert (Bob) and Betty Collins of Jamestown, KS. Craig grew up on the family farm west of Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1970.

Craig started raising livestock while attending school and continued after high school graduation. Craig purchased and rented land to farm and helped his dad with the family farm. He also prepared taxes for several years for clients across north central Kansas.

Craig married Sheryl Johnson, also from Jamestown, on June 2, 1972 and later divorced. Together, they had one son, Eric.

He completed ag science studies at Cloud County Community College, and in 1982 pursued his passion for numbers and analysis at Washburn University, where he graduated in 1984 with a degree in accounting. Craig furthered his education at Washburn University Law School, where he received his juris doctorate in 1987. Craig ran his own law practice in Topeka for over 20 years, and prepared taxes and worked until his health prevented him.

In his free time, Craig was an avid reader and a student of history. Craig's intellect, sense of humor and infectious laugh will be missed by family and friends.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Betty and his brother Gary. He is survived by his devoted son, Eric Collins of the home, and brothers, Mark (Kathy) Collins of Topeka, KS and Terry (Trudy) Collins of Beloit, KS, an aunt, Donna Poage of Augusta, KS, two uncles, Keith (Verlene) Neuway of Wichita, KS and Ronnie (Kay) Neuway of Burrton, KS as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Services will be held at a later time.
