Christopher Dale Benson

Christopher Dale Benson, 52, Summerfield, KS passed away at his home on February 1, 2018 after his second journey with cancer. Chris was born in Nyack, New Jersey, on March 19, 1965 to Joan (Moore) and Bari Benson. He attended Axtell High School in Axtell KS. Chris was a talented carpenter and worked in California as a contractor and later moved back to Kansas and Nebraska where he continued his carpentry and contracting business. He took great pride in his work, whether it was custom cabinetry in an upscale home, tiling floors for a local business, or building a deck for his mom. A jack of all trades, he also worked for the Union Pacific railroad and even operated the tavern in Burchard for a time. Chris was an outdoorsman, loved hunting, trapping, and fishing, canning vegetables from his own garden, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his daughters. His infectious laugh and ornery sense of humor will be missed.

Chris is survived by his two daughters , Alexis (fiancée' Tyler Wareing) Benson of Summerfield, KS and Savannah Benson of Wymore; mother, Joan Snell of Burchard, NE; father Bari (Maggie) of Oregon; siblings Tim (Lisa) Benson of Barneston; Leslie Pittman of Burchard; Ann Benson of Council Bluffs, IA; Rae Lynne (Chris) Bredemeier of Virginia, NE; Levi Snell of Wymore, and Irene Snell, of Lincoln; aunts Kathleen Moore of Escondido, CA and Susan Laffey of Florida, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cecil & Irene Moore; Curly & Gale Benson; aunts Eileen-Marie Moore, and Cleo Moore; uncle Charles Moore; cousin Cynthia Moore; and nephew Colton Benson.

Cremation has taken place. A Mass will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church Hall in Summerfield, KS on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 10:30AM, Interment to follow at the Summerfield Catholic Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for Family and friends will be held at the Summerfield Community Center.
