Cheryl Lyn (Shepherd) Sayler, 74, Topeka, KS, passed peacefully Tuesday, January 28th surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her husband Donald A. Sayler, daughters Amy O'Hara (Michael), Arin Clendening (Brent) and grandchildren Molly, Brady, Casey O'Hara and Ava Clendening. Her Celebration of Life will be held on February 9th at the Cyrus Hotel from 2-4.

Cheryl was born September 26,1945, in Wichita, KS to Lyman and Margaret Ray. Margaret later married Leo Shepherd and they raised Cheryl and her siblings in Kingman, KS. Cheryl was proceeded in death by her parents and brother Scott Shepherd. Survived by sisters Jan Hilton (Mike Spahr), Jo Vanderbeek (Hank), Steve Shepherd (Gail), Sue Stubbs (Michael Shepherd) along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews who will continue her loving legacy.

Cheryl graduated from Kingman High School in 1963 and attended Pittsburg State University, graduating with a Bachelors in Education in 1967 and moved to Topeka, KS to start her 35 year career as an educator. Cheryl taught at Northern Hills Junior High for 4 years before moving to Shawnee Heights High School where she served as an Art and English Teacher, heading up Student Government and coaching Track and Volleyball.

Cheryl and Don were married August 13, 1973. They built a loving relationship and home filled with laughter and fun, a favorite spot for many relatives and family – especially their grandchildren.

Cheryl loved sports and spent countless hours getting her daughters to practices, games, tournaments and was a reliable volunteer when help was needed. She held several volunteer positions and appointments at Oakland United Methodist Church over the years.

Cheryl had deep individual connections with each of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members and friends. She was a positive, loving, inclusive person who always brought light to any room she was in.
