Celebrating the Life of Charlotte "Granny" Schwartz

Charlotte Schwartz, known fondly to generations as "Granny," lived a life as rich, warm, and sweet as her favorite chocolate. On August 1, 2026, at the age of 92 (just a few weeks shy of her 93rd birthday), Granny peacefully set off on her final road trip, leaving behind a legacy of immense love, laughter, and so many memories.

Charlotte was born on August 21, 1933, in St. Louis, MO to the late Pauline and Albert Nichols.

Granny’s greatest adventure began when she married her beloved husband, Howard. Together, they raised six children and built a home where the door was always open, the kitchen was always welcoming, and the laughter never ended. Though she deeply missed Howard since his passing long ago, her family takes beautiful comfort in knowing that after all these years, they are finally reunited.

To know Granny was to know a woman who loved the simple, genuine comforts of life. She had a spirit built for adventure and a heart built for home. She was happiest when she was playing a board game, watching John Wayne and her favorite classic western movies, or quietly enjoying a piece of chocolate. Her home and heart were always open, filled with laughter, storytelling, and an abundance of love for her expanding family.

Her greatest pride, joy, and masterpiece was her sprawling family. As the proud matriarch of four generations, she watched her family grow to include her six children: as well as many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Each of them carries a piece of her warmth and her independent, loving spirit.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Charlotte "Granny" Schwartz will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the International Association of Firefighters local 73 located at 4271 Delor St., St. Louis, MO 63116.

Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Granny are invited to come together to share memories, laughter, and stories of a life beautifully lived.

In honor of Granny’s sweet tooth and her love for a good story, we invite you to wear something that makes you comfortable, enjoy a piece of chocolate, watch a classic western, and hold your loved ones a little closer and take a moment to remember the joy she brought to the world.
