Charles William Woods Jr., affectionately known as Papa Woods, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024, in Osage City, Kansas, at the age of 81. Born on December 19, 1942, in Clay Center, Kansas, to Elsie and Charles Woods Sr., Charles grew up to be a man of great humor, love, and courage.
A proud graduate of Morganville High School, Charles carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life, applying them to all his endeavors with a steadfast dedication. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as cooking meals and fishing in the quiet of nature and tending to his beautiful garden of flowers and vegetables. His love for the KU Jayhawks basketball team was well-known, and he could often be found cheering them on with the same passion he devoted to every aspect of his life.
Charles' laughter was contagious, and his presence brought warmth and comfort to those around him. He was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom, always ready with a joke or a kind word to lift the spirits of others. His courage in the face of life's challenges was an inspiration to all who knew him, and his legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Elsie Woods, his father, Charles Woods Sr., and his sisters, Ruth and Rosemary. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving family. He is survived by his three daughters, Natalie (Eric) Hatcher, Clarissa (Josh) Mibbs, and Rachael (Deznic) Blakeney. His granddaughters, Are'Onna, Karsin, Kassie, and Jocelyn. Charles also leaves behind his beloved bonus children, Michael and Donna, who were dear to his heart, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who will fondly remember his playful spirit and loving nature.
Papa Woods' companionship with his cats, Orville and Mabel, was a testament to his gentle soul. He loved snuggling with them, and they, like his family, were a source of great comfort and joy in his life.
Charles William Woods Jr. lived a life full of love, laughter, and courage. As we say goodbye to Papa Woods, we celebrate the life of a man who was truly one of a kind and who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In honor of his life and legacy, we remember Charles not just for the life he lived but for the love he gave and the happiness he brought to so many.
