Charles Leo Solbach, Chuck to many, Charlie to family, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Saturday October 16, 2021. He was one of 14 children born on Aug. 10, 1931, in rural Clifton Kansas to Martha LeCuyer and John Solbach. He served in the army in Germany during the Korean war. Chuck graduated from Kansas State University where he earned his master's degree in education. While at K-State, he and his wife Barbara had two sons. They moved to California in 1962 and had two daughters. Chuck worked as a high school administrator most of his career and retired as from Aptos High School in 1986. "Mr Solbach" as he was known on campus was a beloved by many. Chuck was known to volunteer for many causes. He was ever present for all after school activities, he was also very involved in the Lions Club. Family time was the most important thing to Chuck. Summers were spent on long family road trips, including many fishing and camping trips to Brookings Oregon.
He went on to marry Fern Kusy in 1994 and after 10 years, moved back to Kansas where he spent the remainder of his life. They enjoyed traveling together including many trips to Europe and regular trips to visit family in California.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Fern Kusy Solbach, his four children: Jody Solbach (Yvonne), Joel Solbach (Reshma), Julia Brittner (Kevin), Erica Sharp (Brian), 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers Vernon Solbach (Milly) and Mark Solbach (Susan) and 2 sisters Carolyn Cote and Mary Balentine and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
The family would like to extend many thanks to the staffs at Atria Hearthstone and Midland Hospice of Topeka for their care and compassion.
Funeral services will be October 30th at 10:00 am at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1800 SW Stone Ave. Topeka Kansas 66604.
