Charles Robert Carter, Iii

May 21, 1949 — October 16, 2024

Charles Robert Carter III, affectionately known as Charlie to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, at the age of 75, due to complications from diabetes. He was born on May 21, 1949, in Tachikawa, Japan, to the late Charles Robert Carter Jr. and Mabel (Tucker) Carter.

Because of his father's military postings Charlie's early life was in Japan and Turkey. His family eventually settled in Topeka, Kansas, where he would later become a respected member of the community. Charlie was a proud graduate of Washburn University, where he was an active member of the ROTC program, laying the foundation for his future in service to his country and his community.

Following his education, Charlie dedicated himself to a life of service. First as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, where his sharp mind and quick humor made him not only an excellent officer but also a beloved comrade. After his time in the Air Force, Charlie continued to serve as a Lieutenant with the Topeka Police Department. His colleagues there remember him as both funny and intelligent, a man who could de-escalate tense situations with his quick wit and who approached his work with an analytical mind that was second to none.

As Charlie reunites with his beloved parents in eternal rest, we honor a life well-lived. We celebrate the time we were given with Charlie, the stories shared, the laughter enjoyed, and the wisdom imparted.

A private ceremony will be held to honor Charlie's memory. He will be laid to rest in a nature area near Topeka, Kansas. At his request the ashes of five of his beloved ferrets will be buried with him.

Godspeed CRC3.
