Celia Anne Sainer Rudka

Celia Anne Sainer Rudka, 95, of Manhattan, KS passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2016 at Homestead Assisted Living in Manhattan, KS.

She was born on October 9, 1920 in Bison, KS, the daughter of James & Antonie (Jedlicka) Sainer. Celia attended grade school in Bison and developed a love for music at an early age when she learned to play the violin. She graduated from Bison High School in 1938. After graduation she attended Ft. Hays State for 1 yr., Emporia State for 2 yrs., secretarial school in Kansas City and took bookkeeping classes.

She married Oran Melvin Long on June 14th, 1943. They later divorced. In 1947, she moved to Los Angeles. She returned to Wichita, KS from 1954-62 in order to take care of her mother and then returned to California, eventually settling in San Francisco. She worked as a stenographer and at various secretarial positions there until her retirement.

On January 24th, 1970 she was married to Edward J. Rudka in Reno, Nevada. He passed away on November 28th, 2006.

Celia was a member of Old First Presbyterian Church in San Francisco for many years. She enjoyed attending bible study and volunteered in the church office. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, attending the opera and listening to classical music.

In 2007, Celia moved to Manhattan to be nearer to her family. She was a resident of Homestead Assisted Living since 2008 and enjoyed attending bible study, singing and listening to the music.

Survivors include a niece, Deanna Lindquist (Arnold) of Waterville, Kansas; nephew Jim Sainer (Pat)of Chicago, Ill; sister-in-law, Bea Sainer of Marysville, KS; three great-nieces: Gay Stewart (Keith) of Manhattan, KS; Cindy Tessman of Columbia, MO & Lisa Stryker (Rob) of Waterville, KS & one great-nephew, Joshua (Amber) Sainer of Chicago, Ill as well as five great-great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant brother Jerry; sisters Blanche, Marie & Clara; and her brother Willard.

Celia was cremated. A memorial service will be held on May 29th at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, in the Harris Activity Center Chapel, 350 Poyntz Ave. in Manhattan, KS. A graveside inurnment service will be on June 5th at 2:30 p.m. in the Lonestar Cemetery in Bison, KS.
