Catherine Ann Dunn, affectionately known as Cathie to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on April 3, 1943, in Abilene, Kansas, Cathie's warmth and vibrant spirit were evident from a young age. Her journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, an enduring passion for her interests, and a career that touched the lives of many.
Cathie's formative years were spent in the nurturing environment of Wakefield, where she graduated from Wakefield High School with the Class of 1961. Her early education laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and personal growth. Cathie's career was a testament to her hard work and commitment, culminating in her retirement from the Kansas State University Housing Department. Her colleagues remember her as a pillar of strength and reliability, characteristics that she carried into every aspect of her life.
Family was the cornerstone of Cathie's world. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. While Cathie is predeceased by her beloved siblings, "Dick" Reese, "Bud" Reese, Leona Allan, and her spouse, Ronald Dunn, her legacy continues through her cherished family. Surviving Cathie are her siblings, Michael (Laura) Reese of Salina, Kansas, and Frank (BJ) Reese, of Hayes, Kansas. Cathie's memory will be treasured and kept alive by her children, Shelly (Courtney) Christenson of Westmoreland, Kansas, Timothy (Laura) Lynch of Kansas City, Missouri, and Shawn (Gary) Morrison of Hartsville, South Carolina. Her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren will forever hold onto the love and lessons she imparted.
Cathie's interests and hobbies were a reflection of her zest for life and her love for the simple pleasures. She was an exceptional cook, often found in the kitchen preparing meals that not only satisfied the palate but also warmed the heart. Sewing was another of her talents, through which she expressed her creativity and meticulous attention to detail. Cathie was also known for her love of dancing, a joy that she shared with friends and family alike. Her spirited nature shone through in her conversations, as she was both a keen talker and an attentive listener, always making those around her feel valued and heard.
Above all, Cathie will be remembered for the love she so generously gave and the thoughtfulness she showed to everyone she encountered. Her spirited demeanor was infectious, and her presence was a source of comfort and happiness to those fortunate enough to know her.
Cathie's life was one of meaningful connections and heartfelt experiences. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on our lives. Her story does not end with her passing but continues through the memories we carry and the love that will never fade. Though she may no longer walk with us, Cathie's spirit will forever dance in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return. She was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and her legacy will endure through the countless lives she touched.
Memorial services will begin at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at the Wakefield United Methodist Church, 406 6th Street, Wakefield. Private burial will take place in the Highland Cemetery, Wakefield, KS.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made in Cathie's memory to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
