Catherine Mae Combs

Catherine Joyce "Cathy" Combs (Oberle), 73, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Cathy was born on June 14, 1953, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Leonard and Audrie Oberle, who preceded her in death. She spent most of her life in Dodge City, a place she proudly called home, before relocating to Topeka, Kansas, in recent months to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Cathy married Danny Ray Combs on September 7, 1972. Together they raised four children. If there is one thing everyone will remember about Cathy, it is her incredible sense of humor. She was quick-witted, loved to laugh, and had a gift for finding humor in everyday moments. Her funny stories and clever comments brought joy to those around her.

Cathy enjoyed reading, watching true crime shows, and spending time with family. Being a grandmother was a profound joy in her life, and her grandchildren lovingly called her Memaw. She especially cherished the holidays, when her family could all be together.

Cathy shared a very special bond with her dog, Fergie, who was much more than a pet—she was family. Fergie brought Cathy great joy and companionship, and her passing in October 2025 was a deep loss.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Danny Ray Combs; her daughters, Kristin Weis (Joe) of Olathe, Kansas, and Shonna Martinez (Jesse) of Topeka, Kansas; her sons, Matthew Combs (Lindsey) of Kansas City, Kansas, and Mason Combs (Deloris) of Topeka, Kansas; her grandchildren, Bryson Martinez, Elijah Martinez, Raegyn Combs, Mason Shaddox, Paityn Combs, and Delilah Haskell; her sisters, Theresa Oberle and Debbie McLaughlin; along with nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Above all, Cathy’s legacy is defined by unconditional love and the laughter she shared with others. Her sense of humor, deep devotion to her family, and the unforgettable moments she created will be treasured forever.

A Celebration of Life honoring Cathy will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lakewood Shelter, Lakewood Park, 2301 SE Lakewood Drive, Topeka, Kansas 66605. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate her life.
