For eleven years, Louise did volunteer work with the Kansas State Historical Society, six years as coordinator of all docents and is a lifetime member. When the children were in Topeka schools she served in various offices of the PTA, two years as president of Topeka-Shawnee County. She also was president of Washburn Faculty Wives when her husband taught Kansas Statutes in the Law School.

Louise has been a president and a 73 year member of Kiwanitas, American Legion Auxiliary, American Association of University Women (life member), and Topeka Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (75 years), and has served as chapter regent.

After her husband's death in 1977, Louise became the Law Librarian for the law firm of Schroeder Heeney Groff and Coffman, now Coffman Defries and Nothern and retired after 25 years in 2003.

Louise always said one of the joys of belonging to different organizations was knowing so many people and learning from all. She considered herself very fortunate.
