Carol Kay Griggs, 84 was called home to be with our Lord on September 30, 2023.
She was born & raised in Topeka & lived here all her life. Carol graduated from Topeka High School & immediately began pursuing a career in the banking & financial services industry. She later received an associate degree in business from Washburn University. Carol was employed by Topeka Bank & Trust most all her working years.
She enjoyed working around the house on the weekends doing yard work, planting flowers & even mowing. She was not afraid of hard work & didn't mind getting her hands dirty. Carol had many talents. She was a very well organized & efficient homemaker & kept a very tidy house. She was a great cook & made the best pumpkin & banana nut bread as well as oatmeal raisin cookies. Everything that came out of her kitchen was delicious. Around Christmas time every year she would spend about 2 weeks in the kitchen baking from sunup to sundown making bread and cookies for all her family & friends. She loved to sew, design & make quilts, blankets & clothes. Her favorite place to shop was Joanns Fabric shop. Prior to her illness, she dedicated nearly all her free time for 2 years sewing blankets, quilts & clothing for families in underprivileged & poverty-stricken 3rd world countries helping a mission's team at Topeka Bible Church.
Carol married Larry Griggs over 30 years ago. They loved to travel & found Hawaii, Lake of the Ozarks & Breckenridge, Co. as their favorites. They enjoyed working around the house together, taking long walks through their neighborhood, dining out with friends & putting jigsaw puzzles together. They were season ticket holders, loyal supporters & avid fans of Kansas University Men's basketball for many years and rarely missed a home game.
Carol left the banking industry in 1992 & began her new career as a small retail business owner/operator when she & Larry opened G's Frozen Custard & Yogurt Inc. here in Topeka. After 7 years of hard work, long hours, 7 days a week work schedule & many sacrifices, they sold what had become a very successful business. Even after 25 years, G's continues to thrive & has become a landmark in Topeka.
Larry & Carol began to travel & finally enjoy retirement. They looked forward to Sunday mornings & the thing I admired the most about their marriage is that they just loved being together. Survivors include her husband Larry, her son Mark Drake, his wife Dana, their children Cody & Cheyenne, a stepson Jeff Griggs, his wife Christy, their daughter Danielle, her husband Zach Atzeni, her sister Shirley Casco & many nieces & nephews.
