Carlyn R. Black, age 56, of Topeka, KS peacefully met her Lord and Savior at Midland Care's hospice house early Wednesday morning, January 25, 2023.
Carlyn Rochelle was born on March 3, 1966 in Oberlin, KS to Ron and Sharon Black. She spent much of her childhood life and
education in residence at the Capper Foundation of Topeka, KS. She had a tough battle all her life with cerebral palsy; but, being a bright and resilient woman, she went on to earn a master's degree in psychology from Emporia State University. For many years she worked for Social and Rehabilitation Services in Topeka. Carlyn loved nature and being outdoors, reading and learning and she was especially active and interested in her Catholic faith. She had a compassionate, sensitive nature and a joyful, warm smile.
Carlyn was preceded in death by her father, Ron Black. She is survived by her daughter, Cheyenne Marshall (Jay) of Topeka, her two grandsons, Sebastian and Jacobie, her former husband, Bobby J. Whyte of Topeka, her mother, Sharon Black of Oberlin, KS, her brother, Kevin Black (Tami) of Norton, KS, her grandmother, Helen Brooks and her aunt, Betty Heisel, both of Oberlin, KS, her aunts and uncles, Vicky and Vivan Heisel, Marcia and George Ryan, and Dixie and Rick Fields, several cousins, nieces and nephews and her friend and caregiver of many years, Barbara Prevedello of Topeka, KS.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church's St. Vincent Chapel in the parish office building at 1800 SW Stone in Topeka, KS.
