Carl "Gene" EugeneWhitesell, 86 of Scranton, Kansas Passed away peacefully onSaturday December 7, 2019at Midland Care, Topeka, Kansas after a short battle with Cancer. He was born onApril 8, 1933in Waterville, Kansas son of William and Ruby (Henrich)Whitesell. He married Anne Martin in Topeka, Kansas onFebuary15, 1958. Gene as almost everyone knew him served for the United States Navy, before he married Anne and made Topeka home to raise his 6 children and he worked forHerrman'sExcavating as a foreman. When he and Anne retired they moved to "the farm" in Scranton, he loved to hunt, tinker with his tractors, and push down trees with his dozer for firewood to keep them warm through the winters. He never met a stranger, and was a friend to everyone, he would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Gene enjoyed teasing and giving you a hard time especially his grandchildren. If he wasn't teasing you, you thought he was mad at you. Gene's family was his pride and joy. He enjoyed his grandchildren spoiling them rotten then sending them home. Preceding him in death are his parents WilliamWhiteselland Ruby Broman, one brother WilliamWhitesell, and a grandson SpencerWhitesell. He is survived by his wife of 61 years AnneWhitesell, and his children BrendaWhitesellScranton, Ks, Carla Childers(Phil) Topeka, Kansas, Mary Rogers(Jerry) Berryton, Kansas, PatWhitesell(Kenda) Burlingame, Kansas, MikeWhitesell(Jeanne) Scranton, Kansas, and Rita Burch(Billy) Topeka, Kansas . Three sisters Mary Lou Higgins El Cajon, California, BeulahSpunaugle(Tom) Seward, Nebraska, andDelmaHartigLincoln, Nebraska. 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren soon to be 20 any day, and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Graveside services will be heldat 10:30 a.m. SaturdayJanuary 25, 2020 at Highland Cemetery(197throad)Scranton Kansas. Celebration of Lifeand luncheon will be heldfrom 12:00 -3:30 p.m. atCarbondaleELM Community Building, 228 MainStreetCarbondale, Ks66414.
