Carl Alben Swenson, Jr., 98, died November 5, 2022, at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS. He was born March 18, 1924, in Clay Center the son of Carl A. and Mamie (Dugan) Swenson.
He married Doris L. Wininger on January 9, 1954. This union produced six children, Deborah, Darlene, Carl III, April, Curtis and Craig. Carl served in the United States Army, Private Company A 76th Infantry Training Battalion, Camp Roberts, California, being Honorable Discharged October 22, 1943. Carl had many careers during his life time, carpenter and truck driver being a couple of them. There wasn't anything Carl couldn't fix. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved going fishing, he especially loved fishing for trout and bass. He was the number one John Wayne fan of all time.
He is proceeded in death by his wife of 68 years, Doris L. Swenson. His parents, Carl A., Sr., and Mamie (Dugan) Swenson. Two brothers, Duane, and Wendall, four sisters, Dorothy (Matson), Lois (Miller), Donna (Wells) Joyce (Swanger). One grandson, Eric Swenson and one great-grandson, Kent Pope.
Carl is survived by his six children, Daughters, Deborah (Mike) Ponton, Darlene (Larry) Melton, son, Carl III, daughter, April (Merlin) Wendland, son, Curtis (Lori) Swenson, son, Craig (Kelly) Swenson, Eighteen grandchildren along with many great and great-great-grandchildren.
Lunch will be served at the Alert Covenant Church, 15820 Green Randolph Road, Leonardville, KS at 12:30 PM Sunday, November 20, 2022. Graveside services will follow at approximately 2:00 PM at the May Day Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Andrew Lucas.
