Carl Alfred Lundquist

January 29, 1942 — September 20, 2023

In the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and forty-two, on the twenty-ninth day of the first month, in the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois, Carl Alfred Lundquist was born unto this world.

The tale of Carl, a man of kindness, humor, and intelligence, begins and continues until the twentieth day of September, two thousand and twenty-three, in the city of Topeka, Kansas, where he took his final breath, succumbing peacefully to the trials and tribulations of this earthly plane.

Carl was a man of great learning, having studied the profound and intricate art of metallurgical engineering at the esteemed Colorado School of Mines. His industrious spirit and keen intellect led him to a distinguished career at J. D. Edwards, where he served as the Vice President of Global Operations until his retirement. Here, he was not merely a man of work, but a man of influence, his dedication and leadership leaving an indelible mark on the company and its people.

Yet, Carl was not solely consumed by his work. He was a man of myriad interests, each pursued with fervor and a keen eye for detail. A master modeler, Carl was renowned in the world of model railroading, his creations so exquisite, that two were commissioned by the prestigious Smithsonian Institution. His love for the road led him to become an ardent builder of street rods and a devotee of the Corvette. A lover of speed, Carl found joy in the thrilling world of motorsports. Yet, his heart was not solely tied to the land, for he was a man who traversed the globe, his journeys taking him across the breadth of the United States and beyond.

Carl was a beacon of love and joy for his family. His beloved wife, Barbara Lundquist, was his partner, his friend, his confidante. His daughter, Kristin Mouton, and her husband Eddie were the pride of his life, their happiness his greatest achievement. His grandchildren, Christopher and Tayler, and their respective spouses, Vicky and Joey; and, Marisa, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy. His great granddaughters, Chiara, Giulia, and Emma Rosalie were the twinkle in his eye, the promise of a future he would not see, but had helped to shape.

Carl is also survived by his sister Barbara Lundquist Grossklags and her husband, Glenn. He is preceded in death by his mother, Emma Galowitsh Lundquist and two of his daughters, Carole Lee Lundquist and Karen Jo Lundquist.

In the words of the classic poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson, "I am a part of all that I have met." Carl was indeed a part of all he met, leaving traces of his kindness, his humor, and his intelligence in the hearts of those he encountered. His life was a testament to the power of perseverance, the joy of curiosity, and the warmth of love.

Thus, we bid farewell to Carl Lundquist, a man of many talents, of boundless love, of indomitable spirit. His journey on this earthly plane may have ended, but his legacy lives on, in the hearts of those he loved, in the company he served, in the creations he crafted, and in the memories he left behind. Rest in peace, dear Carl, and may your spirit continue to inspire and guide us, as your life did.
