Carl Gene Blume passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of December 2, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Carl was born August 28, 1955 in Montgomery, West Virginia to Wanda Gail Blume (Willis) and Forrest Eugene Blume. The family lived in Boomer before moving to Parsons, WV where Carl graduated from high school.
After graduation, Carl worked for the State of West Virginia Department of Tax and Revenue while also working part time at the Charles Town Racetrack. He moved to Topeka, KS in 1988 to work for the Shawnee County Appraisers Office. Carl then moved back and forth between West Virginia and Kansas many times between the years 1992 and 2005, before permanently taking residency in Topeka.
Living in Kansas never took away from the love he had for his home state. He would root on the Mountaineers every chance he got and speak of the beautiful West Virginia mountains often.
Carl's love of music was evident to all who knew him. He would share this passion by loaning out albums and sharing information on his favorite bands to anyone who would listen. Two of his favorite bands were The Jayhawks and POCO.
His love of music was only surpassed by his love for his family. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Emma Jean Blume. He is survived by three daughters, Meagan Marie Bowers (Matt), Makenzie Clair Blume (Taylor Pressgrove), and Abby Paige Blume. Carl is also survived by four grandchildren, Brennen and Carter Bowers, and Gemma and Dexton Pressgrove.
The family will be holding a celebration of life at the Garfield Park Shelter House in Topeka from noon-2 p.m. on Friday, December 8th.
