Bonnie Lee Morris, rural Emporia, died on May 18, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was 84.
Bonnie was born in Hartford, Kansas on February 4, 1940, to Raymond L. and Nola B. (Danford) Andrews. She married Virgil J. Morris on June 8, 1958, in Emporia, KS. They were married for nearly 56 years until his passing on May 6, 2014.
Over the course of Bonnie's life, she worked at several businesses in the Emporia area. She worked at David's Department Store, Emporia Livestock Sales and assisted her husband with his construction business. She retired at the Medicine Shoppe where she was a friendly and familiar face within the Emporia community. Her favorite role, however, was being a homemaker. Bonnie enjoyed taking care of her family. She spent many hours preparing meals, gardening and canning and tending to her beloved pets. She especially loved her cats.
Bonnie was a member of the Prairie Hens Homemakers Extension Unit for 50 years. She spent many summers at the Anderson Building during the Lyon County Fair where she won several awards for her canning and baked goods. She was known for her lovely pies.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; beloved daughter, Tamela Morris and brother, Daniel Andrews. Survivors include sons; James (Lisa), Raymond and Michael (Aimee), all of Emporia; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Darla Cink and cats Sweetie and Sophie, whom she cherished dearly.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10:30 Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. Pastor Eddie Housch of the Messiah Lutheran Church will be officiating. A celebration of life at 11:30 will follow at Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lyon County 4-H Fund, Emporia Friends of the Zoo, or Hand in Hand Hospice.
