January 28, 1926 — January 25, 2015

Bobby Gene Havens, 88, formerly of Joplin, Missouri, died January 25, 2015, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born January 28, 1926 to Willard and Mary Katherine (Garrett) Havens in Quapaw, Oklahoma and grew up and attended school in Baxter Springs, Kansas. He married Wanda Fulwiler on June 9, 1957 at the First Christian Church in Baxter Springs. Wanda predeceased him in June of 2014. He was also predeceased by his parents and his sister Vera Carlisle. He is survived by his nephews Jack Carlisle (Angie), Grand Rapids, Minnesota; James "Bim" Carlisle (Cindi), Linden, Michigan; Greg Carlisle (Jennie), Branchville, South Carolina; and David Carlisle (Cindy), Big Spring, Texas.

His sisters-in-law LaVaughn Hanson of Silverthorne, Colorado and Dolorise Hearrell of Topeka, Kansas, and Wanda's four nephews and a niece also survive and always considered Bob to also be a part of their family.

He was a lifelong resident of the tri-state area and was a proud employee of Empire District Electric Company, retiring in 1988 after nearly 38 years. Before retirement he and Wanda traveled as much as possible, often to warmer destinations such as Florida or Hawaii. After retirement they were able to travel more widely, both in the United States and abroad. Among their memorable trips were trips to Australia, France and Greece and many RV adventures (including several trips to Alaska). Relatives who lived close enough to join them fondly remember their many camping experiences and always appreciated the extraordinary efforts Bob made to be sure everyone enjoyed themselves.

He and Wanda were very dedicated to one another. People often commented on what a lovely couple they were. They always took wonderful care of one another and it was very difficult for him after her death.

Bob was cremated. He requested that no service be held. He will be inurned alongside Wanda in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Mo.
