"Bob" Robert Lee Hayes was born on November 2, 1930 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Walter and Frances (Pike) Hayes. He grew up in Atchison Kansas.
Bob joined the U.S. Air Force and was discharge Honorably from Camp Carson Colorado on September 2, 1952 after 3 years 11 months 11 days of service with 2 years 4 months and 18 days foreign service. Also a member of the Knights of Columbus. While at his duty station in Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska he was Baptized of the Roman Catholic Church and received permission to marry the love of his life Mary Miller June 21, 1951 at St. Catherine's Church in Catherine, Kansas.
He worked in the dry cleaning industry for years, than worked for the railroad industry across the Midwest retiring in 1993 to become a member of the Aladdin Lamps organization to be a professional and technical individual in the art of creating beautiful ornamental and exquisite pieces of ornate lamps.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary of Topeka and five children; Mary Randel, Paula O'Brian, Mark Hayes, Gary Hayes and Roberta Erickson. He is also survived and was a loving Grandfather of nine and great Grandfather of five children. Also a sister Sharon Davies and a brother Ronald Hayes.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glen Hayes, and his sisters Gladys Anders and Betty Keihl.
Services will be held Saturday, April 5 at 10:30 AM at Mater Dei. Parish (Assumption Church) 204 SW 8th, Topeka, Ks. followed by a burial at Mt Calvary. In lieu of flowers the family request charitable contribution to Midland Hospice Care in Topeka Ks or a memorial mass.
