Graveside inurnment services will be held for Betty Jewel Dunn, 87, Emporia, at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Olpe, Road 70 K5, Olpe, KS 66801.

On July 2, 2015, at 2:52 a.m. our family lost a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. Betty was born November 19, 1927, in rural Emporia, the daughter of Verl Monroe and Jeanne Elizabeth (McIlvain) Brown. In 1945, she graduated from Eskridge High School in Eskridge, Kansas. She married Dale E. Davis in 1945. They divorced in 1951. She married the love of her life, Warren H. "Bud" Dunn on June 19, 1952, in rural Emporia. Betty was a member of the American Legion for 45 years. She worked as a cook at Northern Heights High School for 21 years and retired in 1990. When speaking of her time at NHHS, she often would say, "I don't know if they should pay me or I pay them."

Survivors include a son, Phillip H. Dunn and wife, Pam of Emporia; two daughters, Holly Jean Myers and wife, Sheryl Sanders of Lawrence, and Julie Anne Woodward and husband of Emporia. She had three step-daughters that she loved as her own, Francis Marlene Ellis, Hammitt, Idaho, Deanna "Sue" Eichsteadt and husband, Jay, Parkridge, Ill., Wilma Jean "Billie" Wendelgass and husband, Ray, Brownwood, Texas She had 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Warren; brothers Phillip, David, Verl James "Jimmy"; sister Nora Mae "Nonie" Tomlinson; and son-in-law, Gary G. Ellis.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Betty Dunn's residence, 2857 Road M, Emporia, KS 66801, on Monday, July 13, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The family suggests memorials to Hand-In-Hand Hospice, sent in care of Julie Woodward. 2857 Road M, Emporia, KS 66801.
