Barbara Jane Gentry

Barbara Jane (Morton) Gentry, age 68, passed away February 12, 2018 following a fire at her home. Barbara was born July 4, 1949 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Forrest and Dorothy Morton. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield in Topeka and lived the last several years in Council Grove, Kansas.

Barbara was married to Bill Gentry and together they raised three children. She was preceded in death by Bill, her parents, her brothers Don and Harry, and son Glen Gentry. Survivors include a brother Ken (Willa) Morton of Ottawa, KS, sisters Teri (Bob) Bullington of Emporia, KS and Anne (Mark) Anderson of Omaha, NE; son Mike (Kelly) Gentry of Council Grove, KS, daughter Bobbie (Mike) Checchi of Alabama, daughter-in-law Tammy Hopper of Allen, KS, six grandchildren Nick, Jessica, Danielle, Shayli, Tyler, and Alexandra, and two great-grandchildren Brady and Hayden.

Barbara's greatest passion was her children and grandchildren. In her later years, physical disabilities kept her close to home. Memorial contributions can be sent to Meals on Wheels through the Council Grove Senior Center, or the Meals on Wheels in your local community.

A memorial service will be held at the Rock Creek Church of Christ, 2264 South US-59, Ottawa, KS on February 23 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
