Arnetta Lee Burgess

Arnetta Lee Burgess (Perkins) age 81, Topeka, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 10, 2019, 14 years to the day after her late husband, Harold's passing.

She was born May 26, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Madeline Perkins (Cooper). Arnetta married Charles Gillespie in 1954. To this union there were four children born.  She married Harold Burgess in 1973, and had one daughter. Harold preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Eric (Ricky) Gillespie, and a grandson, Dustin Gillespie.

Survivors include her children, Connie Jo Gillespie, Keith Gillespie (Diana), Kelly Long, and Becky Gros (Mel); grandchildren Michelle Regan, Rob Emery, Ashley Hughes, Sarah Gillespie, Jamie Gruber, Jody Brandenburg, Jeff Brandenburg, Jennifer Adams, Treyton Gros, and Loren Gros; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Arnetta was a majorette in her younger years at Topeka High School, where she also graduated. From there she went on to work many years in the general contracting industry.  She enjoyed watching the Chiefs and NASCAR racing, but mostly enjoyed time with family and friends. Her family will remember her as a very loving and proud mom and grandma.

A gathering for family and friends is planned to celebrate Arnetta's life on Sunday at 11:00am-1:00pm.  Please contact a family member for additional information.  Honoring her request, cremation is planned.  A private family inurnment to be held at Topeka Cemetery.
