Alice Marie (Comer) Meyer passed peacefully December 23, 2017 at the age of 90 at her home in near Lawrence, KS. She was a former resident of Kansas City, Missouri; Prairie Village, Kansas; Washington DC, (Springfield, VA); Longwood, Fl; Lake Dabinawa, near Lawrence, Kansas; Overland Park, KS , Asheville, N.C and White Lake, Wisconsin.

Alice was born on February 26,1927 at the family home on 57th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of William Chester and Ressie May (Keller) Comer. She was one of nine children consisting of six brothers and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Donald F. Meyer (1975), her parents, her sister, Dorothy (Joseph) Horine, her brothers William C. Comer, Jr. (Mina Smith), James F. Comer, Sr.; Joseph Edward Comer, and David Thomas Comer.

Alice had a exciting career which led her to many and varied exciting experiences. She graduated from Southeast High School in June 1944 and immediately began her working experience as secretary at Great Lakes Pipe Line Company (1944-1947). She married Don Meyer in 1947 and spent several years at home with their two children, Donald Steven and Donna Marie Meyer. In 1966-67, she decided to join the full-time workforce and received a position with U. S. Naval Intelligence ONI, Kansas City, MO. as Secretary for the Senior Resident Agent and six Special Agents. In 1967 she accepted the position of Assistant City Clerk for the City of Prairie Village, KS. After serving in this position for approximately one year, she was appointed by the Mayor and City Council as Municipal City Clerk serving the City from 1968 – 1978. Ready for a new challenge, she moved to Washington, DC (1978-1989) after accepting a position in the personal office of Kansas U.S. Senator James B. Pearson. She worked six months for the Senator who was in the process of retiring. Before he retired, he initiated a position for Alice with the U.S. Senate Commerce and Transportation Committee under the leadership of Senator Bob Packwood. Alice worked for the committee as an Administrative Assistant to General Counsel, Matt Scocozza, who was responsible for developing and passage of legislation for transportation issues(1978 -1983). When Ronald Reagan was elected President, he appointed Elizabeth Dole as his Secretary of Transportation. Matt Scocozza was approved by the U. S. Senate as Dole's Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Affairs and in turn Alice was appointed as Matt's Executive Assistant. She worked for the

Reagan Administration from 1983 – 1989. Alice left Washington, DC in 1989 and moved to Maitland, Florida, close to her daughter. She did a short stint as a real estate agent. Finally, in 1991, moving back to home territory in Kansas, she acquired a position as Secretary/Assistant with Dean Joe Bauman of the School of Business, University of Kansas. (1991 - 1995). After retiring from the School of Business in 1995, she continued working for the University as Event Coordinator in an Independent Consultant capacity (through her own business, Alstar) 1995-2002. She continued her challenging career when in 2002 she went to work part time for Shawnee Mission Medical Center's Teamworks Department as Secretary until she retired for the last time in 2004.

Alice was self-appointed family historian and devoted over 30 years to researching her genealogical roots; was an avid reader; and interested in all things in the unknown realm.

She is survived by her beloved son and daughter, Donald Steven Meyer (Location) and Donna Marie Johnston, (Altamonte Springs, FL) her former daughter-in-law, Susan (Swift-Meyer) Delfelder (Wade) Lake Dabinawa, KS ) ; four precious grandchildren: Melody Meyer-Becker-Jones (Brandon Jones), Lake Oswego, Oregon; Mathew Meyer (Pema) of Palos Verdes Estates, California; Megan Marie Johnston, Chicago, Illinois, Jeffrey Jason Johnston of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and three great grandchildren, Jane Becker, Spencer Becker and Zachary Becker, Lake Oswego, Oregon. She is also survived by one sister, Frances Conn, White Lake, Wisconsin; one brothers, Ronald R. Comer (Barbara), Prairie Village, KS; a dear sister-in-law, Mrs. James F. Comer (Billie). Overland Park, KS, and many beloved Comer, Conn, Horine and Meyer nieces and nephews.

No memorial service. Cremation.
