Alford Lee Shaver

October 10, 1940 — March 27, 2018

Alford Lee Shaver "Big Al" age 77 years, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at home in Topeka, Kansas. He had been in and out of hospitals in Tennessee and then Kansas since December 17, 2017 for kidney failure.

Al was born in El, Paso, Texas on October 10, 1940 to Harvey Shaver and Winnie Daily Shaver. They later moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Al lived until 1977.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Billy Shaver, Texas, a daughter, Martha "Liz" Shaver Shaw (1985), and four grandchildren, Shannon Shaw (1985), David "Bubba" Shaw (1985), Kyla Shaver (1985), Darren Shaver (1985), and most recently his son-in-law Robert "Bobby" Bingham December 2017.

Al was married to Sharon Holthusen on June 21, 1958, they were later divorced. He then married Nancy Baker, they also divorced. He then married Linda Rosebrough , they also was later divorced.

Al enjoyed racing on the dirt tracks at Topeka Fairgrounds and Shawnee Speedway. He won numerous trophies several of them was for rolling end over end. He won a trophy for being the "King of rollovers."

He moved to Celina, Tennessee in 1977 after becoming disabled from a heart attack that he had while at work at the Topeka Good Year plant. He lived there until February 2018, when he moved back to Topeka, Kansas.

He was an avid Dale Earnhart Sr fan. Anything that he could find that had Dale Earnhart Sr on it, he would end up with it. He had his trading cards, die cast cars, cereal boxes, you name it, Al had it somewhere in the old school bus that was next to his home, if it had Dale Earnhart Sr on it.

One of his passions was customizing cars and then taking them to car shows. He won several plaques and trophies for some of the cars that he completed.

At one point he was into H-O trains. He had a 14X70 trailer house that had been gutted that he had built little towns that went all though the trailer. Then there was train tracks that went through all of the little towns. There was to many things that he had done with the trains to mention.

One of his biggest passions was his church and Jesus Christ.

Big Al is survived by his children, Walt Shaver (Joyce) of Topeka, Dean Shaver (Christina) of Topeka, Sherry Shaver Bingham of Meriden, William Shaver of Cookeville, Tenn and Charlotte Shaver Taylor (Kelly) of Livingston, Tenn. He is also survived by his sister Beulah Shaver Fazio of Topeka and brother Harvey Shaver of Topeka. He also has numerous surviving grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

His children will be holding a memorial service on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 1:00 at 4681 66th, Meriden, Kansas. You are welcome to bring any pictures and or stories that you may have to share with everyone. Please bring your own drinks.
